For the last month I've been having pain in my lower abdomen and right side. Some times it would double me over in sharp pain and other times it just felt like a bad stomach ache. Some days I would go without any pain at all. My doctor sent me to a GI doctor and he sent me for a CT scan.
The CT showed it's chronic appendicitis. The doctor that sent me for the CT is out of town for a few days but when he gets back and we discuss it and decide how to handle it. I would prefer to just remove the appendix and get it over with but I don't think removing the appendix is a way the doctor will want to go. Sounds like they prefer antibiotics when the appendix becomes inflamed. It also sounds like it's something I could just live with for the rest of my life without it ever turning into acute appendicitis. Can't wait to see the doctor again to discuss things.
The bad thing is now every little pain or twinge scares me thinking it could turn acute. I am a real worrywart. If you are interested this is a good post about it:

Never heard of it, I always thought removal was the only way to resolve the problem.

It is for acute appendicitis because it could burst. Apparently chronic is when the appendix becomes inflamed for whatever reason, lasts for a short time or several weeks, and then goes away. That's what mine has been doing. I'll try to talk the doctor into just removing it so I won't have to worry with every little pain.

Honestly never heard of it as a chronic illness either. Usually it is just acute and they remove it. Not sure there are really any other good options. Good luck at the dr.

I would chime in but wait for your doc to return for your conversation- a million years ago doc's didn't want to do surgery on little kids till it got "hot' watching the WBC's - We are talking the early 50's - I only saw one adult rupture -which after surgery involved drains & compress. You gotta be in vogue and have IBS which could be dietary controlled with meds- but being you don't cook that might be a problem-- anyway wait for your doc visit he will know how to treat your problem.

Just got an email from a loopie. She said she was diagnosed with it and over the past few years she has had a couple of flare ups.

more from my loopie:
I have been having flare ups occasionally since I was a teenager, looking back on it. Pain, constipation (usually I'm regular as clockwork), feverish... it would always go away. About 6 or 7 years ago I had a really bad flare up of pain, really bad. I didn't know about chronic appendicitis. I thought I was having an acute attack, and I went to the ER. They did a CT scan and sent me home with antibiotics. They really didn't give me a diagnosis, just that I didn't need surgery. I did my own research. I have had two flare ups since then, not quite as bad. Since I know what it is I don't worry about it. I take some natural antibiotics instead of running a doctor every time.

I take Sovereign Silver which is a type of colloidal silver. It's a liquid (clear and tasteless) that you take by the teaspoon. Great for sinus infections too.

The CT doctor just called. He is going to set up an appointment with a surgeon to discuss just removing the appendix. He doesn't like playing the waiting game with an appendix. Then he called right back to say he also wants to set me up for an ultra sound because of the thickening endometrial stripe (it could represent hyperplasia or malignancy)and they need to get a better look at it. Cheryl is not a happy camper right now.

At least they want to be sure. Hang in there.
