Yesterday - I couldn't get on line- Comcast said they were not working on the lines. I waited as sometimes the person answering if its a live person or a recording is not always up to the minute. But time march on and I finally turned in a service call-- they said I was off line so no signal could be sent. Appointment was quick same day between 2p & 4p. although I had to shout into the phone-to answer their questions and the person had no accent & was cordial. Cable person arrived at 3:30 PM said some problem outside- got the latter and corrected that but said it was mainly my modem- he replaced it. I have had the same modem since AOL was connected to Time-Warner -maybe 4 or 5 years. My question is -How long is a modem supposed to last ? Or is this a variable thing ?

I don't know how long they are supposed to last. I've had the same one since I got this computer. I think it's probably a random thing.

Bertie, I had to buy a new modem a while back. NOW, I have to unplug the thing going into the modem & plug it back in order for it to work. Grrrr So, I still have my old one and it probably is still good. Sheesh......... PS Bertie, it is 81 degrees here. (Thursday) We are not having Winter this year!! I'll bet it's the same at your house.

Read more: aolwatercooler.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=pcproblems&action=post&thread=57"e=676&page=1#ixzz1nFdhqgUn/>Linda Hey Linda - so far they didn't charge me for the modem at least on this months bill- maybe next months- who knows- I have to per instructions of Comcast- go off line then unplug the modem for 30 seconds- ( this was in the past- but I think that's standard if you have problem) Now a days if I have an interruption in service I pick up the phone to find if there is an outage- sometimes they don't know yet. This usually happens at 1AM -happened last night- then the recording says will be out for 6 hrs do you want a return call. It did come back on by 2 -but I usually give up. This might be the city but they seem to work on things at night more. Yes it was 80 here in Houston today but overcast most of the day.
