Why?
That's all - WHY Windows XP 98 Media PC SP3 gotta go say
"user profile IN USE by another program - we creatin' a TEMP for you"
and then not let me have back my OLD FULL "user profile"?
NOT that it matters (everything is backed up - I just lack the knowledge of how to TELL this idiot software GO USE the other profile).
NOT that it matters (I LIKE having a fresh start as if the VAIO is brand spanking NEW! <g>).
Not that it MATTERS - I lost all my not FULLY backed up and archived Mozilla Bookmarks but that TOO is a freedom from "clutter", isn't it.
THANKFULLY nothing TAX RELATED is anywhere on any computer that isn't READABLE from dozens of different "applications" and backed up in OCTUPLES externally.
JUST CURIOUS WHY MS OS does this, it said the profile was being used by another program - why didn't it just WAIT until that program was done instead of TIME-WARPING ME back to the pre-Cambrian era? :=

Thanks, Scotty - we all know my pooer VAIO has had a rough life, misconfigured at the factory or reseller to load all its softer on 15g, and how I spent YEARS "accommodating" that "out of space" message. <g>
I have me a backup "refurbished" computer - after the NYS matters get somewhat resolved, I do imagine I will "migrate myself" to that and let the VAIO rest. <g>
(PS - on your link, one answer talked about the registry file and space limits on C: and I think my registry file must be ENORMOUS at this point, in spite of as much tweaking as a non-geek MIGHT ever do to cut out drek from it.)

UPDATE For Scotty (I wonder if I had just MODIFIED my last post if it would somehow ALERT Scotty to its "new" content, but I'm not in a TESTING mood at the moment <g>):
What is INTERESTING when my Windows XP OS does this "new TEMP user profile" is that I am TIME WARPED back to the day the software was INSTALLED on this system, or the moment just before they SHIPPED IT to me and I first logged on.
So the profile DOESN'T know about what I've done SINCE whenever, YEARS AGO, and sometimes that cleans up a lot of system CLUTTER I wouldn't know how to get rid of anyway.
On the down side, the START button leaves me with a LONGER list of applications, and to access SOME of them, I have to open MS Explorer on my HD. No biggie, and not enough of a pain to have me TINKER at this point.
VAIO works, it still does all the QUIRKY things it ALWAYS DID - goes mute, hits the Virtual Memory LIMIT wall, freezes or hangs sometimes when I INPUT COMMANDS TOO FAST FOR IT.
But otherwise, it's fine! =:^)

And maybe, just maybe, thanks to someone who said Best Buy's GEEK Squad was a good tech group,
MAYBE the VAIO will get upgraded! Maybe she just needs a new graphics board and some memory. (However, I just scoped out the Alienware X51 and "in for a penny, in for a pound" sounds like a GREAT WAY to rationalize getting that instead - don't tell VAIO <g>).

Yes, Omni-vorous - I regard ALIENware right up there with green slime as a form of modern technology, and in that Obama EXALTS me (slime = pond scum = algae).
Ah, the life of hobnob (he what my nob?) ING with the MASTERMINDS - algae as fuel, "brilliant", "acting!" :=
