Hold tight the prep will kill you- the procedure not. The last 2 times had the procedure it was in free standing clinic - I was not asleep- light sedation -the first time in the hospital I was completely out- you wake up and say when are they going to start ? 3 comedians Martin Short,Steve Martin and another guy have made a party out of Colonoscopy- they gather at Steve's house -play poker & take their laxatives. You might want to get some of those protective chux's pads in case you don't makeit quickly to the bathroom- saves the floor- you probably will not have any problem- just me. I had a colonscopy 10 years ago so I know all about the prep. So far I'm just starving since I can't have anything solid. I start the actual prep at 5 (in 30 minutes). I also only had one bowel movement from the prep. Very strange. The first time I opened my eyes during the procedure and watched some of it on the computer screen. The next thing I remember was waking up in another room with Casey sitting there. I do love the drugs they give you though. When I woke up in the middle of it I could hear them talking and it sounded like they were at the end of a tunnel and there was an echo. Very trippy.

Colonscopy went well. Again I woke up during it and watched the images on the computer screen and the voices were all trippy sounding. I was wide awake when they moved me back to the room and after farting 3 times they sent me home. The exam showed a bit of diverticulitis (not a big deal). She said to get more fiber in my diet. They found 2 polyps and snipped them off to be looked at but she said they looked fine. The opening to my appendix looked great so there is no reason to postpone the surgery to remove it. All-in-all a good exam "for a person of my age". LOL Now I just have to find out when the pelvic ultrasound is going to be rescheduled with the GYN.
Oh, the finding on the CT that was called a collapsed lung (linear bibasilar atelectasis) was explained to me. When you are in pain you don't take full breaths and that can cause a thickening to appear in the part of the lung you aren't using. Very common and when the pain is completely gone the lung will look normal again.

Every normal person over forty has some diverticulitis and a couple polyps are also normal. Did you kknow popcorn is an excellent source of fiber?

I usually growl at them when they point out my age and give them the stink face. I didn't know popcorn was a good source of fiber. I have to have a lot of butter on mine though.

After repeating the test a mo. later he said it was good. Sm. *roid* issue. But no real prob.Mt MD sent me for a CT due to losing nearly 20lbs in < 2yrs. (w/o doing any big change). That showed no major prob. He said I did have Gallstones, right now nbd as I have no probs. But it is something to be aware of. He ten asked if i knew I had a hernia (dwadinal = small). I told him we knew that a couple trs. ago. So if i were to let them operate I would need to get a)deviated septum (sinus) fixed, rotator cuff, galbadder removed, and hernia repaired. I was like as long as it doesn't bother me I ain't getting cut

She did another pelvic exam and took a pap smear. She said the uterus (that the first ultrasound showed some thickening of the lining that could be bad) felt 100% fine. She also said that they would never do an ultrasound to look at the uterus because the results don't really show much and can look like something that isn't even there. What they do is a sonohysterogram (ultra sound with inserted balloon) but guess what? She said she felt that wasn't even necessary. She has seen "ultrasounds" showing thickening before, done a pelvic exam to only feel a perfectly healthy uterus, done the sonohysterogram and found a perfectly healthy uterus. She also said that since I'm not experiencing any bleeding she is 100% sure there is nothing wrong. She also said that when test results are put on MyChart they always list the worst case scenarios. She left it up to me if I wanted the other test but said if it was her she wouldn't bother. I feel like she knows what she is talking about because she is the GYN specialist they use as an expert witness in malpractice suits. So, I'm just waiting for the results of the pap smear that will show if there is any uterus cancer or pre-cancer in the lining of the uterus. With no bleeding she isn't expecting to find anything.

The old appendix will be coming out on the 10th. I will talk with the anesthesiologists on the 9th and find out what time the surgery will be on the 10th and what I have to do. If it's early I will come home the same day with a few Band-Aids on my tummy. If it's later in the day I will stay overnight.
