Thanx everyone for the good wishes. I'm not nervous about this at all. I'll come home with a staple where my appendix used to be and 3 small holes in my stomach with a stitch and a band-aid on it.
I didn't realize it but when they did a pap smear on me they also sent it off for DNA testing to see if I had the markings for cervical cancer in my future. I got those results back the other day:
Your recent PAP result is normal. In addition, you tested negative for the markings that can increase a woman's risk for cervical cancer. This means that your risk for this cancer is extremely low. In keeping with current recommended screening guidelines, your next PAP is due in 5 years.
I know there are other DNA type testing a person can have to see if it's likely they will develop other types of cancer. The question is do you really want to know and worry every day about it? If it's something like cervical cancer or breast cancer it would be good to know because you can go ahead and have a hysterectomy and have your breasts removed to prevent it.

They don't do Hysterectomy's any more without just cause- say if you had a gross bleeding problem there is a procedure they do www.bannerhealth.com/Services/Health+And+Wellness/Ask+the+Expert/Womens+Health/_Endometrial+Ablation+for+Heavy+Periods.htm On Breast surgery -you have to carry the gene & a decision has to be made. On breast surgery now( I had a rt. Mastectomy in 2000- early breast cancer only the pill as a follow up- no nodes were positive- so I had no chemo or radiation- the mastectomy was my decision - as it could be partial with chemo & radiation or complete mastectomy with decision about chemo or radiation after surgery- because of my age 61 I opt for the complete mastectom- I did not have reconstruction. Now they will remove both breast for Medicare patients for asymmetry if cancer is one Breast. It sounds radicle but when a breast is removed its at least 1 pound -post mastectomy bra's are not really great- as my round shoulders make for bra strap fallen out. An email friend had had the partial about the time I did- she recently had a re- occurrence in that breast had both removed with chemo & radiation- again because of her age did not have reconstruction.

They don't do Hysterectomy's any more without just cause A friend of mine had a complete hysterectomy in Dec. of 2013 because her mother died of ovarian cancer and the family carries a certain gene that put her at the same risk.

They don't do Hysterectomy's any more without just cause A friend of mine had a complete hysterectomy in Dec. of 2013 because her mother died of ovarian cancer and the family carries a certain gene that put her at the same risk. Some times its followed by bilateral mastectomy- but usually the mastectomy comes first then the hysterectomy-when the gene is present-- I had a 33 yr old patient once years ago before they knew this- she already had to progressive cancer and later died after the second surgery- ex. present day Anglia Jollie- wants to be around for her children- her mother died of Ovarian cancer- its not that easy to diagnose in the past.
